Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed deep condolences over the sudden demise of AICC Secretary and Vice President of the State Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee, Suraj Hegde. Suraj Hegde, the grandson of the late D. Devaraj Urs, who implemented the “land for the tiller” policy in the state, was actively involved in party organization as AICC Secretary and had contributed significantly to the Congress’s structure.
Shivakumar praised Suraj Hegde’s commitment to the causes championed by his grandfather, including the welfare of backward classes and workers’ rights. He highlighted Suraj’s effective role as Vice President of the State Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee and his entry into politics through the National Youth Congress.
Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, expressed deep sadness over Suraj Hegde’s passing, emphasizing his dedication to the party’s ideals and his mentorship of young Congress members. AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge also mourned Suraj Hegde’s untimely death, acknowledging his significant contributions to the Youth Congress and his commitment to the party’s values.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President B.K. Hariprasad echoed the sentiments of loss, recognizing Suraj Hegde’s dedication to public service and his role in implementing government schemes at the grassroots level. AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala described Suraj Hegde as an organiser par excellence and a dedicated follower of Congress ideology.
Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah lamented the loss of Suraj Hegde, highlighting his potential for greater political responsibilities and his commitment to public welfare. Siddaramaiah emphasized that Suraj Hegde’s passing is a significant loss to the Congress party and the state of Karnataka.
