Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed contentment with the Congress’s success in the Legislative Council elections, citing it as a sign of increasing public trust in the state government. The Congress gained 11 additional votes, with support from BJP and JD-S members, leading to victories for five Congress candidates.
This outcome is viewed as a boost for Chief Minister Shivakumar and a setback for the BJP and JD-S, particularly for Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. Shivakumar, upon the results announcement, expressed surprise at the substantial backing received by Congress candidates.
Addressing queries regarding cross-voting, Shivakumar stated he lacked information on specific legislators who may have supported Congress candidates. He emphasized the unity among MLAs and their unwavering support for the party, pledging to uphold the trust placed in the government by the people.
The Chief Minister extended gratitude to the Congress high command and party leaders for their efforts during the election. State Congress President Hariprasad also thanked party leadership and legislators for ensuring the victory of all five Congress candidates. Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara congratulated the victorious candidates, expressing confidence in their ability to represent the people effectively.
Home Minister Priyank Kharge reiterated the Congress’s commitment to Karnataka’s development, social justice, communal harmony, and public welfare. Congress General Secretary Surjewala hailed the election results as an endorsement of the government’s welfare policies and justice-focused politics.
