On the day Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah matched the record for the longest-serving CM with late D. Devaraja Urs, conflicting statements emerged from his supporters and those of Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar regarding the leadership issue.
While the CM’s backers emphasized the necessity of Siddaramaiah’s presence for effective governance, a Shivakumar camp MLA urged the CM to mentor the next leadership generation, expressing confidence in Siddaramaiah’s responsible handling of the transition.
Minister for Social Welfare H.C. Mahadevappa, speaking in Mysuru, highlighted the crucial role of Siddaramaiah in upholding the government, especially for Dalits who advocate for his continued leadership. Mahadevappa stressed the importance of safeguarding the interests of marginalized groups post-Siddaramaiah’s tenure.
PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi, in Belagavi, expressed certainty in Siddaramaiah’s ability to serve his full term, acknowledging the natural uncertainties within the Congress party and commending Siddaramaiah on his milestone achievement.
Senior MLA H.C. Balakrishna, a supporter of Deputy CM Shivakumar, emphasized the need for a smooth generational transition in leadership, indicating that while Siddaramaiah aims to complete his term, the decision ultimately rests with him and the party leadership.
