Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has called on all eligible voters in the state to complete the Enumeration Form during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls starting June 30. Failure to do so may lead to the loss of voting privileges. The government plans to establish 49,320 assistance centers statewide to aid citizens in the enrollment process.
Shivakumar emphasized the importance of voter registration, urging cooperation with the Election Commission’s efforts to maintain accurate electoral rolls. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit households from June 30 to July 29 to distribute Enumeration Forms. Voters must fill and submit these forms within 30 days, along with necessary documents and a recent photo, to secure their voting rights.
To ensure no eligible voter is excluded from the electoral rolls, the government aims to reach out to over 5.50 crore individuals across Karnataka. The draft electoral roll will be released on August 5, with BLOs conducting multiple visits to distribute forms. Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from political parties will also assist voters in completing the necessary procedures.
Shivakumar highlighted the significance of safeguarding voting rights, as it could impact access to government welfare benefits in the future. He stressed the democratic importance of voting and urged citizens to retain this fundamental right. The government will verify beneficiaries of welfare schemes while continuing support measures for various sectors, including drought management and assistance for mango growers.
