Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced the postponement of the monsoon session of the Karnataka Legislature until the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The draft electoral rolls are set to be released on August 5, with the Assembly session likely to follow in early August. Shivakumar emphasized that only Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are authorized to distribute Enumeration Forms, not legislators or political workers.
The Chief Minister addressed concerns about illegal distribution of Enumeration Forms at convention halls, stating that such actions would not be tolerated. He highlighted the importance of BLOs personally visiting every household before the July 29 deadline. Shivakumar assured the establishment of assistance centers at every ward and booth to aid voters during the SIR process.
In response to allegations of misusing government officials, Shivakumar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to serving the people. The Cabinet also approved changes to land allotment concessions for persons with disabilities and discussed the removal of encroachments from Bengaluru footpaths. Plans for rehabilitating affected street vendors and potential public transport fare adjustments were also addressed.
