Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, G. Parameshwara, suggested a significant Sister City pact between Bengaluru and Lima, the capital of Peru. This proposal aims to enhance bilateral relations and potentially boost India-Peru trade to $10 billion. The announcement was made during a diplomatic event in Bengaluru commemorating Peru’s Independence Day and celebrating 63 years of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Such an agreement, if established, is expected to deepen collaboration in various fields like trade, education, and healthcare, fostering closer ties between the regions. Dr. Parameshwara emphasized the importance of this partnership in strengthening the relationship with Peru and enabling direct institutional cooperation between Bengaluru and Lima.
Highlighting Karnataka’s economic prowess, the Deputy Chief Minister underscored the state’s leading position in IT and biotechnology sectors within India. With Karnataka contributing significantly to the country’s IT software development and biotechnology production, the state’s economic potential was showcased through successful events like the Global Investors Meet, attracting substantial investments.
The proposed Sister City agreement is seen as a strategic move to bolster institutional cooperation between Bengaluru and Peru, with a focus on trade, education, and healthcare sectors. This initiative is viewed as a crucial step towards achieving a substantial increase in bilateral trade volume, aiming to reach $10 billion between the two countries. The event, attended by dignitaries including Peru’s Ambassador and Bengaluru’s Honorary Consul, brought together government officials, diplomats, and business leaders from Bengaluru.
