Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara expressed worry about the increasing problem of drug abuse, cautioning about organized efforts to entice young individuals into addiction. He highlighted the importance of steering clear of narcotics and engaging in sports for a healthier lifestyle. Parameshwara addressed the issue while inaugurating the Olympic Day Run in Tumakuru, emphasizing the escalating impact of drug abuse on the youth globally.

Stressing the severity of the situation, Parameshwara pointed out the deliberate targeting of young people to involve them in substance abuse, posing a significant risk to society. He called for enhanced awareness and encouraged students and youngsters to focus on sports and other positive activities instead of falling into the trap of addiction. The Deputy Chief Minister underscored the values of peace, harmony, and brotherhood promoted by International Olympic Day, expressing delight at Tumakuru hosting the event this year.

Parameshwara outlined the government’s initiatives to boost sports in Tumakuru, aiming to transform it into a premier sports city in Karnataka through the development of top-notch sports infrastructure and athlete facilities. He mentioned the allocation of 42 acres of land to the Karnataka State Cricket Association for an international cricket stadium, with plans already in motion. Additionally, Parameshwara revealed plans for an international-standard hockey stadium and a modern swimming pool to facilitate athletes’ participation at national and international levels.
