Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister, G. Parameshwara, cautioned about potential difficulties if rainfall does not occur soon. He revealed a prepared action plan to be executed by Deputy Commissioners with Rs 5 crore allocated per district for continuous drinking water supply. Addressing concerns in Belagavi due to low rainfall, the government plans to mitigate drinking water shortages and crop losses.
Parameshwara emphasized the need for precautionary measures to ensure ample drinking water supply. Criteria for declaring drought were discussed, considering factors like rainfall deficiency, crop loss, and water availability. The state government will decide on actions such as cloud seeding based on the evolving situation.
The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted emerging drought-like conditions in Belagavi, leading to water scarcity fears. He mentioned ongoing successful initiatives in the Revenue Department and plans to expedite pending works within deadlines. Encroachments on temple properties have been identified, with instructions for clearance and ensuring devotees’ convenience.
In a bid to boost sports, the government will enhance support for schools and colleges lacking sports infrastructure at the district level. Sportspersons will receive necessary assistance, with reserved quotas in government department recruitments to promote sports activities.
