Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar expressed confidence that the Congress party would regain power in Karnataka in the 2028 Assembly elections. He highlighted the success of the party’s guarantee schemes in transforming lives and serving as a national model. Shivakumar made these remarks at an event in Tumakuru commemorating three years of the Congress government in the state.
He emphasized that the people’s trust in the Congress was evident through the election of 136 MLAs, with the government fulfilling its commitments. Shivakumar also mentioned that the BJP and JD-S leaders should take note of the Congress’s future ambitions. The Deputy Chief Minister praised the state government’s guarantee schemes, stating that they had influenced other parties to adopt similar welfare models across different states.
Furthermore, Shivakumar cited a study by Oxford University that lauded Karnataka’s guarantee schemes for their positive impact on the lives of the underprivileged, labeling them as a global benchmark. He explained that these schemes were designed to assist individuals grappling with economic challenges amid rising prices and stagnant incomes. Additionally, Shivakumar criticized Union Minister and JD-S leader H.D. Kumaraswamy for his disparaging comments about the state government’s initiatives.
Shivakumar took a dig at Kumaraswamy’s past governance and questioned the effectiveness of his promises with a limited number of legislators. He also criticized the BJP-led Central government for its silence on issues such as escalating fuel prices and inflation. The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the successful implementation of various welfare programs under the Congress-led state government, including initiatives like the Shakti free bus travel scheme for women and land ownership guarantees.
Moreover, Shivakumar reiterated the government’s commitment to developing Tumakuru as a significant urban center to alleviate the population pressure on Bengaluru, the state capital.
