The Karnataka government recently engaged with leaders of various Dalit organizations to address the issue of backlog vacancies in universities and major government departments. Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara announced plans to recruit 72,000 personnel across departments, ensuring reservations for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates as required by law. Additionally, unfilled reserved posts will be addressed separately.
Parameshwara emphasized the government’s commitment to filling backlog vacancies in universities and major departments, promising to discuss the matter with the Chief Minister for prompt action. The meeting highlighted concerns raised by Dalit organizations, including issues related to scholarships, welfare schemes, land allocation, employment opportunities, and alleged injustices faced by SC/ST communities.
The Deputy Chief Minister acknowledged the need to review demands for increased financial assistance for SC/ST students receiving post-matric scholarships. Currently set at Rs 1,800, the scholarship amount may be raised in the upcoming budget to better support students facing higher expenses. Parameshwara also pledged to address complaints regarding the exclusion of Dalit women from state guarantee schemes, promising corrective measures based on detailed district-wise and taluk-wise information.
