Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, G. Parameshwara, revealed that the state government has instructed all departments to prepare recruitment notifications for filling 72,000 vacant positions. This initiative stems from a pre-election promise to gradually fill 1.50 lakh government posts, delayed primarily by internal reservation issues. A commission led by Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das (retd.) was formed to address this, resulting in the government’s decision to proceed with recruitment.
The state Budget had initially announced the filling of 56,942 posts, with the recruitment process already underway. Subsequently, the government re-evaluated vacancies following leadership changes and decided to increase the number of posts to be filled to 72,000. Various departments, including Revenue, Education, Health, and Public Works, have been directed to issue recruitment notifications promptly for roles like teachers, doctors, nurses, and engineers.
In a recent Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar appointed two senior IAS officers, Uma Mahadevan and Gaurav Gupta, to supervise the recruitment process. The government’s focus is on providing job opportunities to the state’s unemployed youth, prioritizing the fulfillment of these 72,000 posts. Additionally, Parameshwara clarified that the government will not compel farmers to relinquish their land for the proposed Bidadi Integrated Township Project, emphasizing the importance of obtaining farmer consent.
