Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge responded to BJP criticism regarding a letter he wrote to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in organizations. Kharge questioned why requests for transparency and adherence to the constitution were being opposed, highlighting the need for organizations to operate within legal frameworks. He cited concerns based on reports about the RSS’s activities, including large-scale events like route marches and shakha operations.
Kharge stressed the necessity for all organizations to abide by the law and uphold constitutional standards, emphasizing the significance of transparency in managing events that involve mobilizing large numbers of people. The minister’s comments come in the midst of a political dispute sparked by his communication with Bhagwat, which has faced criticism from BJP leaders.
Senior BJP leader R. Ashoka launched a scathing attack on Kharge and the Congress party, questioning their authority to question the RSS. Ashoka criticized Kharge’s call for transparency and legal compliance from the RSS, alleging that the Congress had formed alliances with groups like the IUML for electoral benefits. He accused Kharge of defending individuals involved in controversial incidents and failing to address governance issues in his ministerial roles.
Ashoka further accused Kharge of using the criticism against the RSS as a strategy to gain favor with the Congress leadership and enhance his political standing. He claimed that Kharge’s focus on the RSS was a diversion from his ministerial responsibilities and governance challenges in Kalaburagi district. Ashoka concluded by stating that the people of Karnataka were cognizant of what he described as the Congress party’s divisive politics and would respond accordingly.
