Karnataka’s Leader of Opposition, R. Ashoka, criticized the Congress leadership for having different standards of accountability based on their position in power. He specifically targeted Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar for warning officials about accountability in cases of question paper leaks or recruitment irregularities. Ashoka accused Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Shivakumar of hypocrisy in dealing with such issues.
Ashoka highlighted that instead of focusing on systemic reforms to prevent future leaks or strengthen recruitment processes, the Chief Minister chose to hold Deputy Commissioners accountable. He criticized this approach as shifting responsibility to lower-level officials rather than addressing the root causes of the problems. Ashoka described this as the “Congress model of governance” that shields political leadership while blaming lower-ranking officials.
The BJP leader questioned why accountability seems to differ based on which party is in power, emphasizing the need for consistent standards. He criticized the Congress for what he perceived as moral lectures in Delhi but bureaucratic scapegoating in Karnataka. Ashoka’s remarks come amidst a larger debate on accountability in examination and recruitment issues in Karnataka, with the BJP advocating for greater transparency and reforms.
