Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara announced plans to provide permanent residence certificates to aid in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He emphasized the need for 13 supporting documents, including proof of residency, for the SIR process. Parameshwara criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for politicizing the issue.
The Deputy CM highlighted that the state government, not the Centre, would issue these certificates, similar to caste certificates. He mentioned the benefits of including caste details in the residence certificates for students facing exam difficulties. Parameshwara urged the BJP to refrain from politicizing every matter and not to associate the certificates with Bangladeshi nationals.
Regarding the proposed Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) elections, Parameshwara mentioned the possibility of conducting them during the SIR process. However, he noted that the Election Commission might not permit this. He also announced the opening of all sub-registrar offices on Sunday to streamline e-Pouthi and property title services.
Parameshwara clarified that the decision on the Cabinet expansion lies with the Congress high command. He emphasized the importance of celebrating Mysuru Dasara grandly to showcase Karnataka’s culture and history. The Deputy CM also addressed the inclusion of Kambala in the festivities, stating that a decision would be made after careful consideration.
