The Karnataka police have filed an FIR against writer K.S. Bhagawan for comments made about Hindu beliefs, Lord Ram, and Hindu scriptures at a public event. The FIR was lodged by Harihara Rural Police in Davanagere district following a complaint by a resident. Bhagawan’s remarks at a program organized by the Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti were deemed derogatory and provocative.
Bhagawan’s statements allegedly included controversial claims about Lord Ram’s birth and Hindu deities, which were considered insulting by the complainant. The complaint also accused Bhagawan of describing Hindu gods as murderers and suggested that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar supported such views. These remarks were said to have offended Hindu religious sentiments and had the potential to disrupt communal harmony.
The police have booked Bhagawan under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on the complaint. Known for his critical views on mainstream Hindu scriptures, Bhagawan has faced backlash in the past for his interpretations of Hindu texts. His previous comments on the Valmiki Ramayan and the Bhagavad Gita have sparked controversy and legal issues in Karnataka.
