Karnataka faced a series of grim incidents in 2025, drawing national attention. From a fatal stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory celebration to a massive cyber fraud of Rs 31.83 crore, the state witnessed troubling events. The year also saw a daring bank robbery, brutal murders, and crimes against women, including the tragic killing of a pregnant woman by her father in an alleged honor killing.
The stampede tragedy at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4, 2025, resulted in 11 deaths and over 50 injuries. Most victims were young fans and students, turning a celebratory event into a national tragedy. Additionally, Bengaluru experienced a significant cash robbery of Rs 7.11 crore, executed with a cinematic flair by impersonating government officials.
In another heartbreaking incident, a five-year-old girl was murdered in Hubballi by a migrant worker who later met a fatal end in a police encounter. The state also witnessed a decline in molestation and rape cases over the past years, as per official statistics. Furthermore, revenge killings in coastal Karnataka raised concerns over law and order, leading to the establishment of a Special Action Force and the passing of the Karnataka Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention) Bill, 2025.
