Kashmir is set to enhance its appeal to filmmakers as it rekindles its connection with cinema, according to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He unveiled the logo for the International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the region’s potential for filmmakers.
Abdullah highlighted Kashmir’s historical ties with the film industry, noting its past as a favored location for Bollywood productions. The International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir (IFFJK) aims to revive this relationship and position the Valley as a prominent filmmaking destination.
The festival, scheduled for September 7 to 11, 2026, seeks to create a platform for global filmmakers and showcase local talent. With categories like International Competition and Cinema of the World, the event aims to promote Jammu and Kashmir as a premier filmmaking hub.
Referring to the festival as a significant step towards reviving the region’s film industry, Abdullah expressed gratitude to filmmakers supporting the initiative. The festival, organized by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations and the National Film Development Corporation, aims to rejuvenate Kashmir’s cinematic legacy.
