The Kerala Assembly witnessed a lively atmosphere as 139 newly-elected lawmakers of the 16th Assembly took their oaths. The usually exclusive and powerful Assembly premises transformed into an open public space, welcoming common people, party workers, and political enthusiasts. Security was relaxed, creating a celebratory rather than formal environment.
The corridors buzzed with political discussions, selfies, and greetings, resembling a political carnival. Even the Assembly coffee shop, typically reserved, was open to all visitors. The House’s new political dynamics were evident not only inside but also in the surrounding areas.
State BJP General Secretary S. Suresh expressed optimism as his party returned with three legislators, foreseeing significant changes and increased engagement in the Assembly. Former minister K. P. Mohanan, now back to his newspaper profession, opted out of contesting and passed on his seat to his nephew. The oath-taking ceremony showcased a unique blend of politics mingling freely with the people it serves.
