Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi following his party’s victory in the state elections. The meeting, lasting about 20 minutes at the PMO, holds significance as it marks the beginning of the new state government’s interaction with the central government. Pictures of the meeting were shared by the PMO office.
Accompanied by Kerala Chief Secretary A. Jayathilak, CM Satheesan presented a detailed memorandum to the Prime Minister, requesting central support for various development projects and financial aid for the state. The discussions reportedly covered infrastructure development, financial assistance, pending railway and highway projects, disaster relief, and Kerala’s fiscal situation.
While the specifics of the talks were not disclosed officially, the meeting highlighted the importance of issues like infrastructure, financial aid, and disaster relief for Kerala. Despite the political implications, CM Satheesan chose not to comment on the outcome of the meeting with the media. He is currently staying at Kerala House during his visit to the national capital.
Scheduled to meet Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for further discussions on financial support for Kerala, CM Satheesan’s visit also includes meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The visit is seen as an effort by the new UDF government to establish a cooperative relationship with the BJP-led Centre, despite existing political differences.
