Marking B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan emphasized the importance of upholding equality and social justice in the state. Vijayan paid tribute to Ambedkar, highlighting his efforts to create a caste-free society. He expressed concern over recent incidents, including the alleged caste-based harassment leading to the tragic death of a first-year BDS student in Kannur.
Vijayan criticized any form of discrimination that jeopardizes the future of promising students, emphasizing the need for collective action to address such issues. He also raised concerns about the lack of a dedicated law to combat caste discrimination in educational institutions, pointing out the regulatory vacuum due to the stay on existing guidelines by the Supreme Court.
The Chief Minister called for unity against division and hatred, urging society to draw inspiration from Ambedkar’s principles. He stressed the ongoing need to work towards a fair and just social order, underscoring the significance of preserving dignity and equality in Kerala’s societal framework.
