In a significant development regarding the Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation (KSCDC) corruption case, the High Court was informed that the state government has issued the sanction order to prosecute former senior officials of the corporation. This decision comes after years of resistance, which led to contempt proceedings against top bureaucrats. The Director General of Prosecution stated that the government complied with the court’s directions but needed more time to ensure the accuracy of the order.
The Court scheduled the matter for July 8 to present the sanction order officially. The case stemmed from a contempt petition filed after the Industries Department repeatedly denied prosecution sanction for former KSCDC officials despite judicial directives to reconsider. Allegations involve a criminal conspiracy by former KSCDC functionaries with a firm, causing significant losses to the State-owned corporation.
The CBI sought prosecution sanction against the former Managing Director and Chairman, but the Industries Department had consistently refused. This led to prolonged legal battles, with the High Court emphasizing the need for prosecution. The recent development of granting sanction is expected to pave the way for the CBI to proceed with the prosecution in the long-pending corruption case.
