Kerala Health Minister Veena George sustained injuries during a clash between protesters and police at Kannur railway station. The incident occurred as she was about to board the Vande Bharat Express after official engagements in Kannur.
Protesters from the Kerala Students Union and the youth wing of the Indian Union Muslim League gathered at the station to demonstrate against the Minister. Despite police efforts to disperse the crowd, a scuffle ensued, leading to George getting hurt in the chaos.
The situation escalated quickly, with the Minister experiencing discomfort due to her injuries. Consequently, her travel plans were canceled, and she was taken to Kannur District Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
Local CPI-M leaders visited the hospital following the incident, as Speaker Shamseer criticized the physical altercation, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic principles. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemned the attack, and police are expected to investigate the security breach at the station.
