The Kerala High Court has granted transit anticipatory bail to Mohammed Farmaan, the husband of Monalisa Bhosle, known for her viral sensation at the Kumbh Mela. Farmaan has been given one month’s protection from arrest in a criminal case filed by Madhya Pradesh Police following a complaint from Monalisa’s father. The court has ordered that Farmaan should not be arrested during this one-month period.
The anticipatory bail plea was filed by the inter-faith couple, and after detailed arguments from both sides, the court reserved its verdict. Farmaan faces charges under various laws, including the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case alleges that Monalisa was a minor at the time of marriage and that the marriage certificate was obtained fraudulently.
Advocate M. Sasindran, representing the couple, argued that the allegations were false. He stated that the couple had fallen in love during filming and later decided to marry in Kerala. Monalisa’s father initially accepted the relationship but changed his stance upon returning to Madhya Pradesh. The couple provided evidence of Monalisa’s age through official documents like her Aadhaar card and election identity card.
The couple expressed concerns about threats, including possible honor violence, if they return to Madhya Pradesh. They claimed that efforts were being made to portray Monalisa as a minor by canceling her original birth certificate. Monalisa has challenged the cancellation of her birth certificate in the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The Kerala High Court’s latest order offers temporary relief to Farmaan, leaving the legal battle over the marriage and age dispute to be decided by the appropriate courts.
