The Centre has approved the appointment of Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque, a judge at the Kerala High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court. This decision was made following the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium led by CJI Surya Kant. Justice Mustaque, born on June 1, 1967, hails from Thana in Kannur district, Kerala.
Justice Mustaque began his legal career after obtaining his law degree from V.B. College of Law, Udupi, and later completing his LL.M. in Labour Law from M.G. University. He practiced as an advocate for seven years in Kannur, specializing in civil, commercial, constitutional, administrative, service, and criminal law, as well as telecommunication and intellectual property laws. Additionally, he served as a mediator at the Kerala Mediation Centre.
Having been sworn in as an Additional Judge of the Kerala High Court on January 23, 2014, Justice Mustaque was later appointed as a Permanent Judge starting from March 10, 2016. He also took on the role of Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court during his tenure. Furthermore, the Centre announced the transfer of Soumen Sen, Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, to assume the position of Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court after the retirement of Chief Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar on January 9, 2026.
