The Kerala High Court has instructed the police to safeguard the safety of a girl who gained fame from a viral video at the Kumbh Mela. Concerns about her safety in her Madhya Pradesh hometown led her to seek court protection. The court’s directive, based on the girl’s plea, mandates security measures by the Central Police Station in Kochi.
The girl expressed fear of honor killing threats if she returned to her Madhya Pradesh residence, emphasizing her right to make independent decisions as an adult. However, the Madhya Pradesh government disputed her claim, asserting that she was a minor. The dispute primarily revolves around her marriage at the Sri Nainar Devi Temple in Thiruvananthapuram on March 11.
An investigation by the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes revealed discrepancies in the girl’s age at the time of marriage. While the girl presented documents indicating her adulthood, the Commission alleged that her birth certificate was falsified. The legal battle over her age, marriage validity, and safety concerns has involved authorities from both Kerala and Madhya Pradesh.
The High Court’s recent ruling mandates police protection for the girl, ensuring her safety amid ongoing legal scrutiny of her circumstances.
