The Kerala High Court has dismissed Pulsar Suni’s plea to suspend his sentence while his appeal is pending in the 2017 actress assault case. Pulsar Suni, the main accused, was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by the trial court. His appeal challenging the conviction is currently under review by the High Court.
The court emphasized the importance of considering the survivor’s dignity in such matters. The survivor opposed the plea, highlighting the severity of the crime and the guilty verdict by the trial court. The prosecution also argued against suspending the sentence, citing the accused’s criminal background and habitual offending behavior.
The state government pointed out that Pulsar Suni had a history of seeking bail repeatedly and engaging in criminal activities even after being released on bail in a previous case. After hearing arguments from both sides, the High Court ruled against suspending Pulsar Suni’s sentence until the appeal is finalized. Actor Dileep, who was initially jailed in connection with the same incident, was later acquitted along with others.
