Kerala’s Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has expelled former legislator P. K. Sasi due to his disagreements with the party leadership after being denied a second term in the 2021 Assembly elections. Despite being appointed as the chairman of the state-run Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) later on, Sasi resigned from the post last month, hinting at a complete break with the party. His expulsion followed his participation in a dissidents’ convention in Palakkad district, where he openly criticized the party leadership.
Leader of the Opposition V. D. Satheesan responded cautiously to the situation, mentioning that the CPI-M had previously cleared Sasi of allegations of moral misconduct. The expulsion of Sasi adds to the political dynamics in Palakkad district, known for occasional internal dissent within the CPI-M despite its strong organizational presence. With the dissenting group growing, the district’s political landscape remains uncertain, especially considering the upcoming Assembly polls.
