In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), successfully repatriated a crucial member of the infamous Lawrence Bishnoi gang from the United States to India. The individual, Aman alias Aman Kumar alias Aman Bhainswal, a wanted fugitive, was brought back on Wednesday, January 7, as confirmed by an official statement from the CBI. Upon his arrival at the Delhi airport, Aman was promptly apprehended by a team from the Haryana Police.
Aman is a well-known criminal and a significant player in the Lawrence Bishnoi organized crime group, facing multiple serious criminal charges such as murder, rioting, and criminal conspiracy by the Haryana Police. The CBI revealed that Aman had been previously arrested in India for these offenses but was later released on bail. However, he absconded after failing to appear for trial, prompting the Haryana Police to seek international assistance from the CBI for his apprehension.
Responding to the request, the CBI, acting as India’s National Central Bureau (NCB) for INTERPOL, successfully obtained a Red Notice against Aman through Interpol. With the help of international coordination and intelligence inputs, the fugitive was located in the United States and subsequently deported back to India. The CBI emphasized that Interpol Red Notices are disseminated globally to assist in tracking down fugitives wanted for serious crimes.
In India, the CBI manages international cooperation through Bharatpol, facilitating seamless communication between domestic law enforcement agencies and Interpol. The agency highlighted that in recent years, more than 150 wanted criminals have been extradited to India through sustained coordination using Interpol mechanisms, showcasing India’s heightened efforts to combat transnational criminal networks and ensure fugitives face justice.
