Hamza Burhan, a key planner of the Pulwama attack, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) at Muzaffarabad. Burhan, also known as Doctor, was designated a terrorist by the Indian government in 2022 for his association with the terrorist outfit Al Badr. He played a significant role in radicalizing youth and expanding terror networks in Kashmir.
Born in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, Hamza left for Pakistan in 2017 under the guise of pursuing higher studies but joined Al Badr. He quickly rose through the ranks to become a commander, focusing his activities in South Kashmir. His death is a major setback for terror groups operating in Jammu and Kashmir, as he was a key figure in their operations.
The Pulwama terror attack, orchestrated by Jaish-e-Mohammed in 2019, remains one of India’s deadliest incidents, resulting in the loss of 40 CRPF personnel. Hamza’s killing is part of a series of targeted attacks on terrorists in Pakistan, including operatives from Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. These incidents have disrupted the activities of these groups and hindered their regrouping efforts.
