Khalistani terror groups like Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) are intensifying their activities due to increased pressure from law enforcement agencies. The ISI is reportedly backing BKI to escalate operations and execute a significant strike in India. To evade detection, BKI is opting for smaller attacks and extortion schemes instead of large-scale assaults.
According to an Intelligence Bureau official, the strategy is to maintain a consistent pattern of minor strikes to keep law enforcement occupied. By creating this distraction, BKI aims to create an opportunity for a major attack. In a recent meeting in Pakistan, BKI was designated as the primary group, with others like Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) working in unison.
The improved relations between India, Canada, and the UK have posed challenges for these outfits. Recent cooperation between Canada and India has led to stringent measures against Khalistani groups. Canada’s recent legislation banning the display of terrorist symbols has hindered the activities of groups like Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).
BKI has claimed responsibility for recent attacks in Punjab, including a low-intensity explosion near the Punjab BJP headquarters. The group aims to establish Khalistan soon. There are indications that BKI has reactivated its grenade attack unit, despite a previous module being dismantled.
Officials warn that BKI might escalate its operations significantly, necessitating a heightened state of alert. The group, along with ISI support, is determined to advance its agenda through any means necessary.
