Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha inaugurated the sixth edition of Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg, emphasizing the event’s transformation into a national festival. Sinha extended his best wishes to all participants, highlighting the games’ promotion of peace, equality, and camaraderie. He underscored the Winter Games’ role in fostering resilience and unity, reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of sports.
The L-G stressed the broader objective of the Khelo India Winter Games in strengthening national unity through sports. He emphasized the event’s celebration of India’s sporting heritage, unity, and the unifying power of sports. Sinha encouraged healthy competition, mutual respect, and the importance of diversity as a strength that unites the nation’s athletes.
Sinha commended the athletes for their dedication and urged them to uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship throughout the tournament. He highlighted the significance of athletes’ performances in disciplines like alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snowboarding, and ski mountaineering. The L-G also acknowledged the transformation in Jammu and Kashmir’s sporting sector under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, emphasizing the development of state-of-the-art sports infrastructure and the establishment of Khelo India Centres.
The four-day Khelo India Winter Games at Gulmarg will witness the participation of around 1,000 athletes and officials from various states and Union Territories across different disciplines. The event aims to promote unity, mutual respect, and the pursuit of excellence among participants and attendees, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
