The Kisan Diwas celebration took place at the Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University in Hisar. Farmers who excelled in transitioning to natural farming were honored at the event. Prof. B.R. Kamboj, the Vice-Chancellor, attended as the chief guest.
Ashish Mehta, a farmer from Sukera Kheda village in Sirsa, received the Kisan Ratna Award for his achievements in organic farming. He has successfully implemented organic farming practices and diversified his crop cultivation. Mehta has also introduced eco-friendly solutions to address stubble burning issues.
In addition to Mehta, one male and one female farmer from each district of the state were recognized for their outstanding contributions. Vice-Chancellor Professor B.R. Kamboj emphasized the importance of natural farming and coarse grain cultivation in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for India to become a developed nation by 2047.
Haryana Agricultural University has been at the forefront of developing new crop varieties. Recently, the university introduced a popular new mustard variety. To support youth entrepreneurship in agriculture, an Agri-Business Incubation Centre has been established. Ashish Mehta, the Kisan Ratna awardee, highlighted his focus on maximizing yields while minimizing pesticide use and his decade-long efforts in crop residue management.
