A Kolkata trial court has instructed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate claims by the parents of the R.G. Kar rape and murder victim regarding possible manipulation of her viscera samples. The court at Sealdah in South Kolkata has directed the CBI to commence the probe promptly and present a preliminary report by July 30.
The victim’s parents raised concerns about tampering with their daughter’s viscera samples, leading to suspicions of a manipulated viscera report. Allegations pointed towards tampering at the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Belgachia, involving three laboratory officials. The family submitted a letter to the court requesting a CBI investigation into the matter.
In addition to the existing probe into a potential larger conspiracy surrounding the case, the lower court has mandated the CBI to look into the allegations concerning the viscera samples. The state government has also extended the suspension of three IPS officers linked to the case for another 120 days, as they face accusations of neglecting their duties.
