Kolkata golfer Sunit Chowrasia surged ahead in the INR 25 lakh Alpha Sports Academy Golf Championship 2026 at the Patna Golf Club by shooting a remarkable seven-under 65 in the second round. This performance gave him a four-shot lead, elevating him from tied sixth place to the top of the leaderboard with a total score of eight-under 136.
Chowrasia, who is the nephew of Indian professional SSP Chawrasia, displayed a strong comeback after a lengthy injury break. His exceptional round included six birdies in the first 12 holes, matching the tournament’s lowest score of 65.
In the competition, Rohit Narwal secured the second spot at four-under 140 after a solid 68 in the second round. Meanwhile, local golfer Md Nawab positioned himself as the top Patna golfer, tying for sixth place at one-under 143 with a score of 73.
Overnight leader Rohit Baisoya faced challenges, slipping to tied sixth position after scoring 78 in the second round. The Patna Golf Club, with a par-72 layout, features a nine-hole course played twice for a full round.
Chowrasia expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating, “I started really well by converting some tricky putts and making a good up and down early in the round.” He attributed his success to improved putting and adjustments made in his swing due to a past back injury. Chowrasia acknowledged the support and guidance of his uncle, SSP Chawrasia, during his recovery phase.
