The Kolkata Metro, after 42 years, will commence operations at 4 a.m. on June 21. This early start aims to aid the public in reaching Red Road for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mass yoga event on International Yoga Day. Services will run every 14-15 minutes from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m., with increased frequencies on various lines.
On this day, the Blue Line, Green Line, and Yellow Line sections will all start services at 4 a.m. A total of 214 services will operate on the Blue Line, an increase from the usual 152 Sunday services. Passengers can utilize these services to access Red Road from different parts of the city, with convenient connections at Park Street or Esplanade stations.
The Green Line Section, connecting Howrah Maidan and Salt Lake Sector-5, will see 173 services during the day, up from the usual 108 on Sundays. Trains will run every 15 minutes between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m., offering increased accessibility for attendees of the special events. The occasion, featuring Prime Minister Modi, is generating significant excitement in Kolkata, with various dignitaries and organizations set to participate.
