Kolkata Police detained 330 individuals for engaging in indecent behavior and drunkenness during Dol Yatra. Stringent security measures were implemented citywide to prevent any untoward incidents, with increased police presence at key locations. The arrests were prompted by specific complaints from various parts of the city, as per sources at the city police headquarters.
Moreover, authorities seized 25 liters of alcohol. Surveillance has been intensified not only on Dol Yatra but also on the occasion of Holi. Approximately 4,000 police personnel have been stationed across Kolkata to maintain order during the festive period.
Joint Police Commissioner and DC-rank officers are actively patrolling the streets, with around 400 police pickets established, including special ones at 86 key locations. Additionally, three police personnel are stationed at 312 other sites, while a robust radio flying squad and 62 PCR vans, accompanied by a quick response team, are conducting patrols throughout the day.
To prevent individuals from bathing in the river Hooghly or other water bodies in an inebriated state, police officers are vigilantly patrolling the areas. Special security measures have been put in place at 66 ghats and various water bodies in Kolkata, with 24 of them manned by Disaster Management Groups of Kolkata Police.
City police headquarters is on high alert, ensuring rapid response to any reported disturbances. Immediate legal action will be taken by police stations in cases of molestation complaints during the festive celebrations. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to locate and seize illegal alcohol.
