The Kolkata Police Commissioner has instructed anti-rowdy officers at each police station in the city to provide a ‘rough register’ to their Deputy Commissioners of Police. This register contains information about miscreants in their areas and has been submitted to the Kolkata Police headquarters at Lalbazar.
The Intelligence Department of Kolkata Police has disclosed that around 83 ‘tainted’ miscreants’ names have been shared with Lalbazar before the upcoming Assembly elections. These individuals are from various police station areas in Kolkata, including Beliaghata, Topsia, Karea, Phoolbagan, Bhangar, Behala, Parnasree, and Thakurpukur.
In a proactive move to prevent potential disturbances during the elections, Lalbazar has identified a total of 83 troublemakers in the city. The list was prepared by Anti-Rowdy Officers (AROs) with assistance from the Intelligence Department, based on data from past violent incidents during the 2021 Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Police sources anticipate that the number of miscreants on the list might rise. Legal actions have been taken against 64 individuals, while measures against the remaining 19 are forthcoming. Notably, the Behala and South-East Divisions of Kolkata Police have the highest number of notorious miscreants, with 11 names each, followed by Bhangar and the East Division with 10 individuals each.
Precautionary measures have been initiated by the police in anticipation of the upcoming Assembly elections, despite the schedule not yet being announced. Strict actions have been ordered against long-time absconding miscreants, as they tend to become more active during polling.
