The Kolkata Police are implementing measures to boost the law and order capabilities of their personnel across different divisions. Special directives have been issued by a senior officer to enhance discipline, coordination, and teamwork within the force. The new guidelines mandate regular ‘Master Parades’ every 15 days in each city division, coupled with compulsory special training programs.
In response to recent incidents of inadequate coordination and skills during law and order scenarios, the Kolkata Police are focusing on improving decision-making, teamwork, and crowd control abilities among their personnel. The initiative aims to modernize and enhance the effectiveness of the entire police force. According to the instructions, ‘Master Parades’ must be conducted biweekly in every division, accompanied by training sessions on crowd management, team building, and law enforcement techniques.
The guidelines also require the participation of police personnel of all ranks, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a register in each division to record training attendance. Additionally, a monthly report detailing the training participants must be submitted to the Joint Commissioner of Police (Headquarters). The move comes in light of increased political events, religious gatherings, protests, and crowd management incidents in the city, highlighting the necessity for police to possess not only weapon-handling skills but also the ability to assess situations swiftly, gauge public sentiment, and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
Officials from the Kolkata Police anticipate that this initiative will bolster discipline within the force and enhance the confidence and readiness of field-level personnel. Following the implementation of the directive, training sessions have commenced in each city division, with parades and training set to begin in all units in adherence to the new regulations.
