The Kolkata Police recently unfollowed the X accounts of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee following Suvendu Adhikari’s appointment as the Chief Minister of West Bengal. Notably, they are now following accounts such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the new Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, the Prime Minister’s Office, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and his office. The BJP secured victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, claiming 207 seats.
In a significant event at Brigade Parade Grounds, Suvendu Adhikari, elected from Nandigram and Bhabanipur constituencies, was sworn in as the ninth Chief Minister of West Bengal. The ceremony witnessed the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, other Union Ministers, Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, and various dignitaries. The official X account of Kolkata Police, now following a total of 42 accounts, excludes Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee’s accounts.
Mamata Banerjee’s X handle and Facebook page initially identified her as the Chief Minister of West Bengal until noon on May 9. However, post the swearing-in of Suvendu Adhikari, her social media accounts were updated to reflect only Mamata Banerjee. Following Suvendu Adhikari, five ministers also took oath, securing positions in the cabinet of West Bengal’s first BJP government, with their portfolios to be determined later. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari paid homage to Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore at Jorasanko after the swearing-in ceremony.
