The devastating earthquake in January 2001 left Kutch in ruins, casting doubt on its future. Led by then Chief Minister, now Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kutch not only recovered but thrived as a symbol of development and self-reliance.
Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Kutch’s progress continues, notably through the success of Sarhad Dairy. Established in 2009, Sarhad Dairy has become Kutch’s largest cooperative institution, significantly impacting rural livelihoods and the dairy economy.
Sarhad Dairy, operating through over 900 cooperative milk societies, collects about 5.5 lakh liters of milk daily from nearly 80,000 producers. It processes around 4 lakh liters daily, runs a 300-tonne cattle feed plant, and produces 50,000 liters of ice cream daily, benefiting farmers with substantial daily payments.
In the financial year 2024-25, Sarhad Dairy achieved a historic turnover exceeding Rs 1,200 crore, with a 9.09% annual growth rate. It also supplies pure buffalo milk to Amul dairy plants in various states, further solidifying its position in the dairy industry.
