Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Kavinder Gupta recently inaugurated a project at the Indian Air Force (IAF) station in Leh, aimed at enhancing civil aviation infrastructure. The upgraded facilities will improve aircraft ground movement, leading to smoother civil departures and reduced turnaround times. Air Marshal J.S. Mann, Senior Air Staff Officer of the Western Air Command, also attended the event, marking a significant milestone in bolstering Civil Aviation infrastructure in Ladakh.
The Ministry of Defence official highlighted that the improved infrastructure will boost passenger convenience and support economic activities in Ladakh. Despite challenging high-altitude terrain and adverse weather conditions, the infrastructure upgrades were completed swiftly. The enhanced air connectivity is expected to drive tourism in the Leh sector, creating economic opportunities and aiding local livelihoods.
The development not only strengthens the region’s ability to respond promptly to Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) requirements but also contributes significantly to Ladakh’s long-term socio-economic growth. L-G Gupta emphasized the importance of enhanced facilities in ensuring reliable air services for residents and visitors while addressing security concerns.
