Labour Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya introduced a new annual health check-up program for all employees aged 40 and above under the new Labour Codes. This initiative aims to enhance healthcare and social security for India’s workforce. Free health screenings will now be conducted annually for workers above 40 nationwide.
The Minister emphasized that the implementation of the four Labour Codes aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to ensuring dignity, welfare, and social security for all workers. Over the past 12 years, the government, under PM Modi’s leadership, has focused on empowering “Shram Shakti” and “Yuva Shakti” through employment opportunities and welfare initiatives.
Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the significant expansion of social security coverage in India, reaching around 94 crore beneficiaries from 30 crore a decade ago. He noted that ESIC coverage has also increased substantially, benefiting nearly 15 crore individuals today. Early detection through health screenings can aid in preventing severe illnesses, with necessary treatments and medications available through ESIC facilities.
Key labor reforms were underscored by the Minister, including provisions for equal pay for both genders, an extension of maternity leave from 12 to 26 weeks, and the inclusion of work-from-home options for women. Additionally, workers in hazardous occupations and those in establishments with fewer than 10 employees are now covered under ESIC. The government’s focus on addressing workers’ concerns with dedication and empathy was acknowledged.
The nationwide health check-up initiative is a crucial step towards ensuring dignity, protection, and improved healthcare outcomes for the workforce. The launch event was conducted simultaneously at 11 locations of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospitals nationwide.
