Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has advised major food delivery and quick-commerce platforms to eliminate strict ’10-minute’ delivery time commitments, emphasizing the importance of delivery partners’ safety. In discussions with Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy, and Zomato, Mandaviya recommended the removal of rigid delivery deadlines from their platforms and promotional materials to safeguard delivery workers.
Following the minister’s intervention, Blinkit has reportedly removed its “10-minute delivery” claim from all its brand platforms. The companies have committed to eliminating delivery-time commitments from their brand advertisements and social media platforms, signaling a positive move towards enhancing the working conditions for delivery partners.
This initiative is viewed as a significant step in addressing the challenges faced by delivery partners, who often encounter pressure to meet strict deadlines on congested roads. The issue of gig workers’ safety and rights has been gaining increased attention in recent times, with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha actively raising awareness about the struggles of delivery partners.
