Kolkata Police announced the arrest of a youth for sending a false email warning about a plot to murder the new West Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari. The arrested individual, identified as Hasnem Iqbal, sent the email to Bhabanipur Police Station in South Kolkata, alleging a plan by a woman linked to Al Qaeda to use a suicide bomber against CM Adhikari. Following an investigation, Iqbal was traced as the sender and apprehended with the help of Garden Reach Police Station.
After interrogation, it was revealed that the email’s content was fabricated, stemming from personal animosity towards the woman mentioned in the message. The arrested youth admitted to sending the email out of personal vendetta. Authorities discovered that the accused had a history of sending similar fake emails involving various political figures, including to the Election Commission of India before the recent West Bengal Assembly elections.
The police emphasized a firm stance against such false communications, warning of strict legal repercussions for individuals engaging in such activities in the future. Ensuring the security of the Chief Minister was highlighted as a top priority by the city police officials. In the recent West Bengal assembly elections, Adhikari emerged victorious from both Bhabanipur and Nandigram constituencies, ultimately opting to retain his position as the Bhabanipur legislator.
