The Lakhpati Didi scheme, aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of underprivileged households and promoting financial inclusion, is making a significant impact on women in Gujarat. Beneficiaries like Bhavnaben Patel and Komalben Chauhan have successfully established businesses through government support. Bhavnaben Patel, part of the ‘Gayatri Sakhi Mandal’, now runs a profitable canteen with an annual income exceeding Rs 10 lakh, thanks to the scheme’s assistance.
Komalben Chauhan, from Gamdi village, has her own business, ‘Aastha Sakhi Mandal’, where she creates various products like earthen lamps and patch-work items. With 50 to 60 women associated with her group, they earn up to Rs 10,000 per month. The scheme, part of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission, provides technical training, financial aid, and market access to women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
Rekhaben, another beneficiary, highlighted the positive impact of the scheme, mentioning how it has enabled women to become self-reliant and manage their households effectively. Across India, there are over three crore Lakhpati Didis, with Gujarat leading the way with nearly six lakh empowered women entrepreneurs. The initiative has brought a positive change in the lives of many women, fostering entrepreneurship and financial independence.
