Organizers of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) have decided to end the franchise agreement with the owners of Jaffna Kings. This move comes after the arrest of Jaffna Kings co-owner Manjot Kalra on suspicion of match-fixing. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and IPG, the tournament rights holder, have taken over the financial and operational responsibilities of the franchise to ensure the tournament’s continuity.

The termination was due to the Jaffna Kings’ failure to meet their financial obligations as per the franchise agreement. Consequently, all rights related to the franchise have been transferred back to IPG, which, in collaboration with SLC, has assumed full control of the team. The ongoing sixth edition of the LPL will proceed as planned, with Jaffna Kings retaining their name and existing squad, format, and fixtures unchanged.

IPG and SLC have assured that they have taken charge of all player, coaching staff, and support staff contracts to guarantee the team’s smooth functioning. The organizers have also secured all logistical arrangements for the team to ensure its participation in the tournament without any disruptions.

The organizers have already completed around 90 percent of the payments to players and staff, with the remaining amount to be settled in accordance with contractual obligations. The priority remains to safeguard the integrity of the Lanka Premier League and provide stability for all involved parties. The organizers, along with SLC, are committed to delivering a successful and high-quality tournament for players, coaches, partners, and fans.
