The final rites of Chalti Devi, the mother of Rajasthan Assembly Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully, took place in his ancestral village Kathuwas (Behror). Jully, emotionally, lit the funeral pyre of his 90-year-old mother, with former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot offering comfort during the ceremony. Former Union Minister Jitendra Singh also consoled Jully as he mourned his mother’s passing in Jaipur on Friday.
Chalti Devi, who lived with her son, was taken to Sawai Man Singh Hospital after her health declined due to a fall in the bathroom. She was pronounced dead upon arrival, and her mortal remains were brought to Kathuwas for cremation, which occurred in the village field around 5 pm on Saturday. A large gathering of public representatives, Congress leaders, party members, and villagers attended the funeral to pay their respects.
During the funeral procession, Ashok Gehlot, Jitendra Singh, and Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra joined in carrying the bier and offering floral tributes before the final rites. Various senior leaders visited Jully’s residence to offer condolences, including Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, Minister Sanjay Sharma, and several MLAs and former MLAs from Rajasthan and Haryana. National leaders also expressed their condolences, with Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, speaking to Jully over the phone to convey his sympathies. Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge and party General Secretary K. C. Venugopal also extended their condolences. Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde reached out to the grieving family to offer his sympathies. Congress MLAs, district leaders, and party members from across the state gathered in Kathuwas to pay their respects and show solidarity with the bereaved family.
