Lathipahar, a remote area in Jharkhand’s Dumka district, recently saw the construction of its first road link since Independence, marking a significant step towards modernization. Previously isolated due to the lack of road access, this region, known for its natural beauty, is now connected to the city headquarters through a new road built under the PM JANMAN Yojana.
This development comes after 75 years of Independence, bringing Lathipahar and its residents into the realm of progress and connectivity. Despite its historical significance in the freedom struggle, the village had long suffered from underdevelopment and lack of basic amenities, with challenges such as limited education opportunities, scarce employment options, and inadequate healthcare facilities due to the absence of road connectivity.
The newly constructed 2.40-kilometre road from Baska to Lathipahar, completed at a cost of around Rs 1.98 crore, has transformed the lives of villagers, easing transportation for education, healthcare, and market access. Villagers, including the local headman and residents, have expressed gratitude for the road’s construction, highlighting its positive impact on education, healthcare, and overall convenience for the community.
Assistant Engineer Sudhanshu Kumar and Executive Engineer Sushil Kumar Sinha emphasized the challenges faced during construction in the hilly terrain but underscored the successful completion of the road project, which is expected to enhance connectivity and foster development opportunities for the villagers. The road construction aligns with the objectives of the PM JANMAN scheme, aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) by providing essential amenities and fostering sustainable livelihoods.
