Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, R. Ashoka, criticized the Congress government in the state, questioning Rahul Gandhi about the alleged corruption under the guise of the “Karnataka Model of Governance.” Ashoka accused Congress ministers of engaging in corruption and then pretending to expose it, rather than ensuring accountability. He urged Rahul Gandhi to focus on his party’s governance in Karnataka instead of moral sermons.
Ashoka claimed that the Congress government in Karnataka had an insatiable appetite for public funds and corruption, alleging even street dogs and saplings were not spared from exploitation. He highlighted discrepancies in the state’s tree plantation program, where a significant number of saplings reportedly disappeared during verification, questioning the high cost of planting each sapling.
The Leader of Opposition also criticized the government’s expenditure on a stray dog sterilization program, stating that Rs 42 crore was spent without visible results. Ashoka mocked a recent review meeting led by Minister Priyank Kharge, pointing out the government’s tendency to shift blame onto officials rather than taking political responsibility for alleged irregularities.
Ashoka emphasized the need for accountability in Karnataka, calling for an end to what he described as political theatrics and the use of bureaucrats as shields. He demanded genuine accountability from the Congress government instead of repetitive review meetings that he viewed as mere political posturing.
