Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed sorrow over the death of veteran Congress leader Bheemanna Khandre. Khandre, a prominent Lingayat leader from the Bidar region, was the father of Minister for Forests Eshwar Khandre.

Bheemanna Khandre, who served as the president of the All India Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha, was a four-time MLA from the Balki constituency. He also held the position of Transport Minister in 1992 and was a two-time MLC. Khandre, aged 102, passed away on Friday due to age-related issues.

Rahul Gandhi expressed his sadness, stating, “Saddened by the demise of senior Congress leader Sri Bheemanna Khandre. A freedom fighter, educationist, and stalwart Congressman, he devoted his entire life to the service of the nation and the people of Karnataka.” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is traveling to Bidar to attend the final rites of Bheemanna Khandre.

Expressing grief over Khandre’s passing, Siddaramaiah described him as a “former minister and senior statesman,” highlighting his role in Karnataka’s unification movement. Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar also paid his respects, acknowledging Khandre’s contributions as a legislator and minister. BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra offered deep condolences, recognizing Khandre’s efforts in Karnataka’s unification movement.
